SMMTA Member Information

Meetings

Meetings are held every two months on Friday mornings at 10:00 a.m.

​

Southeastern Manitoba Music Teachers' Association offers times to casually discuss teaching issues and also has more formal workshops.

​

Steinbach Cultural Arts Centre

Members are given a discounted rental rate for the beautiful Performing Arts Studio at Steinbach Cultural Arts Centre for recitals.

Membership Fees

Membership fees are due April 1st of each year. This ensures your name will be included on the SMMTA website, brochure and the teacher directory for the following year.

Membership​

$40 per year

​Benefits

​

  • Access to networking opportunities and facilitated discussions with a variety of teachers across the southeast (5 meetings per year)
     

  • Professional Development opportunities (guest speakers 1-2 times per year and in-house presentations at the remainder of regular meetings)
     

  • Ability to register your students for a southeast Masterclass session with a highly acclaimed music professional
     

  • Access to a list of helpful music teaching resources
     

  • Membership to Steinbach Arts Council
     

  • Advertising in annual SMMTA brochure and on website
     

  • Ability to vote at SMMTA membership meetings
     

Requirements

​

  • Minimum grade/level 8 in your area of expertise
     

  • Minimum 2 years of teaching experience
     

  • Minimum 18 years of age or older
     

  • Attend a minimum of 2 (out of 6) SMMTA meetings per year (the Masterclass may be considered as one of the six meetings); OR
     

  • Present a 10-15 minute summary via recorded video of a book you have read, program you have used, conference or course you  have attended that is relevant to your
    teaching experience and that would benefit the membership as a whole; OR

  • Allow a student member to observe your teaching for at least 4 classes (half hour each);
    OR

  • Volunteer a minimum of 2 hours of your time to help organize the Masterclass or other SMMTA program or activity;
    OR

  • Any combination of the above

  • Ability to attend/observe 4 lessons per year taught by selected SMMTA teachers (4 from one teacher or 2 lessons from two different teachers. Arrangements must be made by contacting select SMMTA teachers on your own
     

Requirements

  • Attend a minimum of 2 (out of 5) SMMTA meetings per year
     

  • Minimum level / grade 8 in your area of expertise
     

  • Present a brief (5 minute) report at a SMMTA meeting to share about what you have learned from your observation experience
